PROMOTED STORIES Liverpool chairman sends transfer message to Jurgen Klopp after Reds miss out on title

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner says Jurgen Klopp will be backed to go one step further and bring the title back to Anfield next season.
The joint owner of the Reds was speaking with pride after his watched the team, on the final day of the season, come up just short in an epic Premier League race with Manchester City.
But Werner hinted that there will be more signings this summer to improve the squad even further, when he said: “We’re only going to get stronger. Ninety-seven points, it’s a remarkable year.
“We obviously didn’t win the league but we’ll be back next year and we’ve got a lot of motivation to win the league next year. I’m excited.”
Werner was there at Anfield with principle owner John Henry, and took to the pitch afterwards to show his appreciation for the fans, who have driven Liverpool forward this season.
And the chairman believes the bond between the fanbase and the club will be a powerful factor in making the Reds finish on a high in Madrid in three weeks.
“The support was extraordinary. As Jurgen said, between the support on Tuesday and the way the team played on Tuesday, that was one of the great matches at Anfield. I look forward to a great match in Madrid,” he added.

Hazard future already decided.

The Blues forward may be on the way out of Stamford Bridge but believes in the club’s approach to playing the game under their latest boss
Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has urged the club to stick with Maurizio Sarri next season despite the Belgium international planning his own departure from Stamford Bridge.
Hazard dropped his biggest hint yet that he is set to leave west London for Real Madrid this summer following the Blues’ final Premier League games of the season at Leicester City on Sunday.
A 0-0 draw with the Foxes saw the club consolidate a third-place finish, and with
Champions League football secured for next season, Sarri can now concentrate on winning a first trophy when his side face Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku on May 29.
Editors’ Picks
Despite that success, Sarri has been dogged by criticism since arriving from Napoli in the summer of 2018, with some questioning whether his style is right to carry the club forwards and close the 25-point gap to champions Manchester City .
But Hazard believes that the five-time Premier League champions are on the right path with ‘Sarriball’.
“I think if they can keep the same philosophy as this season, keep playing football like we tried to do it this season, but in a better way – that’s it,” Hazard said when asked how the club improve going forward.
“When you look at the season they are far better than us, Manchester City and
Liverpool . If we want to compete with them next season, we need to do it better. It’s that simple. We need to win games in football. If you don’t, you’re in trouble.
“Yes, it is one of my best [seasons] in terms of goals contribution, of course. But at the end of the season, you want to win trophies, so we can go to Baku and win a trophy. If we do that and finish in the top four, it’s still a great season.
“Now it’s like six-and-a-half [out of 10]. If we win in Baku it is going to be maybe seven-and-a-half.”
Hazard finished what looks likely to be his final season at Chelsea with 16 Premier League goals and 15 assists, the latter enough to see him win the Playmaker Award for the most creative player in the division .
His performances saw them pip Tottenham and Arsenal in the battle of the league’s three top London clubs, and Hazard was happy to contribute so heavily to beating their rivals.
“We are the best team in London, I have no doubt about that,” Hazard said with a cheeky smile. “The league is so competitive.
“To be in the top four in the Premier League is very hard. We have achieved this, we worked all together during the season. We did a great job.
“We lost some games, of course. Could it have been better? Of course, but at the end the target is to be in the top four and we are.” Departing Hazard urges Chelsea to stick with Sarri next season

Good News for Manchester United as De Ligt reverses transfer decision

Former Manchester United goalkeeper and Ajax director Edwin van der Sar has revealed that Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt will move to the Premier League or LaLiga. De Ligt has become one of Europe’s most sought-after players amid Ajax’s fairytale run in the Champions League, which dramatically ended in the semi-finals at the hands of Tottenham.

Van der Sar dismissed a transfer to Serie A champions Juventus as he talked up England and Spain prior to Ajax’s stunning 3-2 loss on Wednesday, which eliminated the Dutch giants 3-3 on away goals.”I think these will be De Ligt’s final games with Ajax, but I hope he goes out on a high,” Van der Sar told Sky Sport Italia.

The 19-year-old centre-back has been linked with Barcelona – who will sign team-mate Frenkie de Jong at the end of the season – Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Juventus. “He’s been here since he was a child and will end up at a big club.”

On De Ligt who scored the opening goal on the night in Amsterdam midweek before Lucas Moura’s hat-trick sent Ajax packing – Van der Sar added: “I think he’ll go to England or Spain.”

The future of head coach Erik ten Hag has also been discussed amid reported interest from German champions Bayern Munich. Asked about Ten Hag, Van der Sar said: “We intend to keep hold of Ten Hag, that is our intention. “We know there will be a lot of changes within the squad, but we’d at least like to confirm the coaching staff.”

Key players man u should not sell this summer.

Five players who Manchester United should not sell this summer

sbnation

With a much rumored squad shake-up on the horizon, here are five players who should not be part of any clear out.

As the Premier League season winds down and the highly anticipated summer transfer window opens, several Manchester Unitedplayers are making last ditch efforts to solidify their future at Old Trafford. While the Red Devils failed to meet expectations by keeping true to manager Jose Mourinho’s “second season syndrome,” they’re still in contention to land a consolation trophy as FA Cup champions. However, that honor is simply not enough for The Special One or fans who are used to a conveyor belt of trophies under the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Mourinho, never at loss for words, has long hinted at a major overhaul this summer for his side. A major overhaul that includes up to ten current players who could be starting for other clubs at the conclusion of the window. The goal of the summer transfer period is clear: secure the best talent that rivals the roster of our Big Six opponents and of course be crowned Premier League champions next spring. However, in an effort to return to familiar dominance fans and critics are used to seeing with United, I shudder that the Portuguese boss will in turn sell players who are worth more to this team than a specific dollar amount.

While the only individuals who ultimately control the player’s fates are Mourinho, the Glazer family and Ed Woodward, I’ve outlined five players who at all costs, shouldn’t be allowed to leave Old Trafford this summer. Is this definitive? Of course not. There is no particular ranking to this list, as each player mentioned brings a distinct level of talent that I would hate to see them display with another club.

David de Gea

What more can be said about the Spanish keeper, who was the only United player to be included in this year’s PFA’s Team of the Year. With 17 clean sheets in 34 domestic appearances to date, its no wonder Zinedine Zidane would be keen to offer de Gea a lucrative offer to player under him at Real Madrid next season. Even on his worst day, de Gea remains United’s knight in shining armor. It’s rare that you have two incredible keepers in a starting and back-up position, and Sergio Romero has proven he’s a worthy contender for the starting role should this be the summer de Gea finally makes his Manchester exit. However, Mourinho is better off letting Zidane fight Antonio Conte for Thibaut Courtois. David de Gea is on his way to rightfully becoming the first hundred million keeper and his forever home should be in Manchester.

Anthony Martial

The French Connection at United rivals the Messi-Suarez-Neymar team that once dominated at Barcelona, and that is in part to Anthony Martial. Martial’s third season as a Red Devil has arguably been his best yet, even while fighting an in-form Marcus Rashford for a starting role since the January signing of Alexis Sánchez. In recent weeks we’ve seen limited performances by the French international, and that absence has led the forward to consider a new home with either PSG or Juventus this summer. At 22 years old and in the prime of his career, can we blame him? According to The Independent, Martial wants to stay. Analyzing United’s success since Sánchez’s arrival, keeping Martial as a first-team member while benching his Chilean rival – at least until Sánchez plays at the level Mourinho paid for him – seems a fair option.

Marcus Rashford

Every United fan remembers where they were when they witnessed Marcus Rashford’s fairytale Premier League debut. At 18 years old, the English superstar dazzled fans and shocked Arsenal by scoring twice and assisting with the third goal in a 3-2 home victory. While every match since then hasn’t been as iconic as that, Rashford has justly earned his first-team spot, and is an example of a successful Manchester academy alumni. Many liken Rashford as United’s franchise player, possibly the only one who can break Wayne Rooney’s all-time club scoring record of 250 goals. On a personal level, Rashford’s presence is reminiscent of a storied Manchester United tradition: training the best players at a young age to emerge into club legends (class of 1992, anyone?).

Back in 2014, Luke Shaw’s record-breaking £30 million transfer fee for a teenager meant United’s left-back woes had seen better days. Four years later, he remains Ashley Young’s understudy. Sure, injuries are partly to blame for his lack of time on the pitch. However, Mourinho hasn’t exactly been Shaw’s cheerleader when speaking with the press either. The left-back role isn’t a must improve position for United this summer; therefore, the logic behind selling Shaw for a reported £28 million is silly. He was pure class against Bournemouth yesterday, denying Callum Wilson an equalizer (even if his tackle was a clear penalty for the hosts).

Paul Pogba

A thorn in Mourinho’s side one week and a Manchester derby hero the following. Paul Pogba’s best years in Manchester are yet to come, and each performance on the pitch is a strong reminder to his manager the depth he contributes across all competitions. The French international bossed the midfield in last night’s win at Vitality Road, providing another world-class assist for Romelu Lukaku. As one of United’s most creative players, Pogba should on the contrary serve as the link to bringing another sought after transfer target (Antoine Griezmann, Paulo Dybala) to Old Trafford, just like he did with Lukaku.

For the next several months, top agents will forgo sleep in order to secure the most desired home for their client. Clubs will ultimately frustrate fans for buying and selling unnecessary talent. It’s been made clear we’ll see a much different looking Manchester United come August, but I trust the incoming athletes won’t come at the expense of the aforementioned players who have undoubtedly earned their role in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI.
